Terms of Use
The short version
- Retaz is a community of human curators. Every playlist on Retaz is made by a person, not a machine.
- Retaz hosts no music. Playback happens in your own streaming service, through links.
- You must be 16 or older.
- Your playlists stay yours. You give us permission to display and translate them within Retaz.
- One person, one account, honest votes. Manipulation gets removed.
- Retaz is pre-launch, entering Early Access: things will change, and sometimes break.
1. Agreement
These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and Retaz LLC, a West Virginia limited liability company headquartered in Lewisburg, Greenbrier County, West Virginia, USA ("Retaz", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Retaz app or retaz.fm, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Retaz.
2. Early Access
Retaz is pre-launch. During the Early Access period ahead of public launch, features may change, be added, or be withdrawn; the service may be interrupted or unavailable; and things may occasionally break. We will treat your account and content with care, but you use a pre-launch product with that understanding. There are no purchases or paid subscriptions during Early Access.
3. Who can use Retaz
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or use Retaz, everywhere we operate. You confirm your birth year at sign-up. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 16, we will close it. Members aged 16-17 receive additional protections by design.
4. Your account
- You sign in with your Apple or Google account. You are responsible for keeping that sign-in secure.
- One person, one account. Do not create accounts for other people, share an account, or impersonate anyone.
- Give accurate information (display name, birth year, country). Do not misrepresent who you are.
- You pick a unique @handle at sign-up. Handles are subject to the same rule as display names: do not misrepresent who you are, and do not impersonate another person or brand with your handle.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account.
5. What Retaz is (and is not)
Retaz is a playlist curation community. Curators build playlists; listeners discover, vote, and share across 200+ languages. Retaz hosts no music and holds no audio. A Retaz playlist is a list of track references. When you play a track, playback happens inside your own music streaming service (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and others) through a link. Whether a track is available, and on what terms, depends on your streaming service, your subscription with it, and your region. Retaz does not control those services and is not responsible for their content, pricing, or availability.
Retaz also includes one-to-one direct messages between members who follow each other. Everything in this section, and in Section 7 below, applies inside direct messages the same as it applies to playlists, profiles, and comments. See the Privacy Policy for how direct messages are handled.
6. Your content
You own what you make. Your playlists, titles, descriptions, comments, and bio remain yours. So that Retaz can work, you grant Retaz a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, translate, and promote your content within the Retaz service, including showing it to other members in their language. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we are legally required to retain, completed within the timelines in the Privacy Policy.
Authorship. Every playlist on Retaz is made by a person, not a machine. When you publish a playlist, you affirm that you made it yourself. Publishing playlists that were machine-generated, copied from someone else, or published on another person's behalf violates these terms.
You are responsible for your content. Only publish what you have the right to publish.
7. Acceptable use
This applies everywhere on Retaz: playlists, profiles, comments, and direct messages. Do not post, and do not use Retaz to spread:
- child sexual abuse material of any kind (zero tolerance; reported to authorities as the law requires);
- anything illegal, or content that promotes illegal acts;
- threats, incitement, or glorification of violence;
- content promoting self-harm or suicide;
- hate directed at people for who they are;
- harassment or bullying;
- sexually explicit content;
- spam, scams, or deceptive practices;
- content that infringes copyright or other rights;
- impersonation of any person or entity;
- machine-generated music or fake artist content presented as human work.
Also prohibited: interfering with the service, scraping, automating account activity, probing our systems, or attempting to access other members' data.
8. Voting and leaderboard integrity
Votes on Retaz are the community's voice, so they have to be honest. Hearts are equal weight: one member, one vote per playlist, and no vote counts more than another. Buying, selling, or trading votes, coordinating artificial vote rings, using multiple accounts, or using automation to vote or inflate rankings is prohibited. We may remove dishonest votes, correct affected rankings, and suspend or terminate accounts involved.
9. Moderation and enforcement
You can report playlists, profiles, comments, and direct messages from inside the app. Reports go to a restricted queue and a human reviews them. If content breaks these terms or our community guidelines, we may remove it, restrict its reach, or suspend or terminate the responsible account, with the response scaled to the harm. If you believe we got a decision wrong, email info@retaz.fm with the subject "Appeal" within 30 days and a human will take a second look.
10. Copyright complaints
Retaz hosts no audio, but playlist text and imagery are member-created. If you believe content on Retaz infringes your copyright, email info@retaz.fm with the subject "Copyright" and include: what work is infringed, where the material appears on Retaz, your contact information, a statement of good-faith belief, and a statement that your notice is accurate. We review notices and remove infringing material.
11. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time; see retaz.fm/delete-account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, harm other members, or create legal risk for Retaz. Where reasonable, we will tell you why. Sections that by their nature should survive (your license grant for retained copies, disclaimers, liability limits, governing law) survive termination.
12. Disclaimers
Retaz is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. Content on Retaz is created by members, and Retaz does not endorse it.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Retaz LLC and its members, officers, and agents are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of Retaz. Our total liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid Retaz in the 12 months before the claim or 100 US dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; where the law gives you rights that cannot be limited, those rights are unaffected.
14. Governing law and venue
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of West Virginia, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts serving Greenbrier County, West Virginia, and you consent to their jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction whose law entitles you to sue at home or to mandatory local consumer protections, nothing in this section takes that away.
15. App stores
If you got the app through the Apple App Store or Google Play, their terms also apply to your download. Apple and Google are not parties to these terms and are not responsible for the service, but they may enforce these terms as third-party beneficiaries where their agreements require.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Retaz grows. For material changes we will give you at least 30 days' notice in the app or by email before the new terms take effect. Continuing to use Retaz after the effective date means you accept the updated terms; if you do not accept them, delete your account before the change takes effect.
